A Pennsylvania club sent two teams to Cooperstown the same week, so we built a puzzle pin that only completes when the two teams trade.

The brief
Two sibling teams, one week at Cooperstown, and a pin designed in two halves so the teams could complete each other's.
How the design got made

The full account
The brief was a relationship, not a logo
Most pin briefs describe a picture. This one described a connection:
"Our Beaver Valley black and white team are going to Cooperstown the same week. Can you recreate a pin like this that connects and have it say Beaver Valley"
Two teams from one club, in Cooperstown at the same time, wanting something that showed they belonged to each other.
The answer was a two-part puzzle pin. Each half is a finished pin on its own. Put the two together and they interlock. One team carries one half, the sibling team carries the other, and the pin is only whole when the two teams trade with each other.
Priced as a pair, not a piece
A puzzle pin breaks the usual arithmetic, because the unit is a set rather than a pin. The customer worked that out in the thread, out loud:
"Just so I understand $2.30 per half? $4.60 for both sides?"
Price shown is what this order was quoted at, for this quantity, size and specification, on this date. It is not a current price list.
The clarification came back the same evening:
"The puzzle pins come as a SET of 2 in a package so you can order both Teams pins together and ship all the pins to one location"
At the size first discussed, the set came to $8.60. Holding the pin at three inches instead brought it to $6.60 — the same design, the same two halves, a quarter off the set price for a decision about size made before the moulds were cut.

That is the whole argument for asking about size early.

Cooperstown quantities, since it always comes up
The first reply in the thread asked which Cooperstown event, because the answer changes the quantity:
"All Star Village qty. 65-85 pins per player / Dream Park qty. 100-120 pins per player"
Dreams Park runs bigger. Teams that budget for All Star Village numbers and then find themselves at Dreams Park run out mid-week, and a second run after the moulds are cut is the expensive way to buy pins.

The banner threshold
This order sat under the threshold, so no banner was included. At the time the line fell at 1,000 pins at 2.0 inches or larger: the size step cost $0.20 more per pin — $1.07 to $1.27 — and brought a free 3ft × 6ft banner plus 100 bonus gold-metal or blackout pins with it.
Worth checking before you commit to a quantity: the bigger pin is frequently the cheaper total order.

Questions this order answers
Pins are trading currency there, not souvenirs, and the difference between a pin that gets traded and one that doesn't is size and finish. Two inches is the floor.
Not every player relies on the team's pin. One parent came to us specifically because their team's supplied pins, in their words, 'aren't really sought-after' — and had a single-player pin made for their kid instead.
Build in time. Rosters change between ordering and travelling; more than one design has needed a number pulled late because a player left the program before the trip.

Glitter is a finish, so it applies to any pin type — standard, spinner or slider alike. It is mixed into the enamel of a chosen colour rather than applied on top, so it will not rub off.
It is specified per colour: one glitter colour, or several. Commonly it lands on a single accent area — the shape of a state, a star, a puck. A 1,500-pin association order ran one glitter colour across the whole run; another design used gold glitter only on the state-shaped element.

Quantity and size move it most: the break runs about $0.20 per pin for every hundred pins, and the range here goes from a 1,500-pin corporate run at 1.25 inch to a 3 inch dangler with glitter. Pin type and finish are priced per pin on top of that — a spinner was $0.65 more per pin on one order, glitter is $0.10 per pin per glitter colour.
Timing is separate again. Six weeks ahead of your date carries no delivery or rush charge; four weeks adds a $40 delivery charge; three weeks adds $40 plus a $75 rush fee. The pins are manufactured in China and are subject to US import tariffs, disclosed on the quote rather than at invoice.
