One style of custom made pins available is called soft enamel lapel pins.

This type of pin is made by pressing the soft enamel against a die.  The die is the component which is used to create the image of the pin.  The die must contain lettering, numbers and other elements in reverse order. Otherwise when the die is applied to the soft enamel, the pins would be reversed.  The easiest way to describe how a die will look, is to take a pin and hold it up to a mirror. The image in the mirror is how the die must look in order to make the pin.

Creating soft enamel lapel pins involves different methods.

Soft Enamel Lapel Pins can be created using different methods.  One such method involves pressing the die into the metal.  The die can be on a highly pressurized arm, and when the metal is placed in the proper location, the arm is released and strikes the soft enamel.

Another method which may be used, is to secure the die into a fixed location. In this case, the soft enamel is pressed against the die with the correct amount of force require to create the pin.  After the pin has been imprinted, there are other finishing touches which must be applied, like adding color and going through the baking processes.
